What have your experiences been like?
The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.
With doctors? Well, I have physical health problems (for about ten years, it's the trigger for my depression), and all but a couple have been bad, mostly with just refusing to listen to my experiences with the treatment they'd keep prescribing. Like when I didn't improve, they'd tell me I was just neglecting my health rather than considering that there was something else wrong with me. In ten years, only one of them ever considered the impact it might have been having on my mental health, and did that mental health questionnaire thing to see if I could benefit from therapy. Before he suggested I might have depression, I never even considered it, so thank god he noticed something was off.Originally Posted by Paula
