    I've had a good day today and got a fabulous bargain too.

    I've been blackberrying in the hedgerows round by us. Picked about 6lb of fruit!! Costing it out based on 'Asda Price' of £2.50 for a 300g punnet, I reckon I got somewhere in the region of £20-£25 worth of fruit absolutely FREE!!!

    So I've been quite busy this afternoon and evening. Have made .....

    * 5 jars of blackberry jam,
    * blackberry ice cream
    * A blackberry clafoutis (which we had for tea tonight)

    * And a blackberry bread and butter pudding (for tomorrow)

    And all it cost me was the price of a bag of sugar and a tub of basic soft scoop.

    I used to love berry picking. It is amazing what nature provides

    I made a trip down to the local allotments today, you can get some really cheap proper organic
    Vegetables. They are a good place to check out and they are very good quality too.

    this might be an obvious one or someone might have posted it before, but if you know how to joint a chicken (or any bird come to that) it makes it go so much further. i've made a £3 chicken last more than a week like this, but i'll let the Goddess Dehlia explain:

    there's other ways of doing it that require less cutting through bone and the use of kitchen shears/scissors, but in my experience it wastes more meat and i prefer to use the one knife. besides, leaving everything on the bones locks in so much more flavour
