Just joined here and am saying hi....

    Hey everyone...

I've just found this form in an attempt to find some community support with my depression. I'm a uk guy, just turned 49 and have had depressive episodes for many years...

.... so, anyways....hello to you all and i hope everyone is having the best day possible

    :-)

Hi Rusty and welcome to DWD.
Are you eating and drinking sensibly? Getting any exercise? Do you have a support system around you?

Hi Suzi and Stella...thanks for responding. At the moment i'm doing all the wrong things to be honest, not enough exercise and probably over using alcohol. I did have a conversation with a telephone counselor earlier on, provided by my employer, which helped a bit.

I'm going to contact my GP to explore alternative medication, i'm on citalopram and Amitriptyline at the moment... I do have some family support, its just been a dark day today, but that's ok... its a new day tmrw

Hi Rusty and welcome . Going to see your GP is a good idea. How long have you been on Citalopram and Ami?

Hunni, alcohol reduces the effectiveness of ADs as well as lowering mood so it’s not going to help you. How much are you drinking?
The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.

Paula's right, alcohol is a depressant and really messes things up. It's great you've started talking with a counsellor. Is this to be a regular thing?
