How much did you tell the doctor and what did they say?
I told them I was having a work related issue and the only thing they suggested was to sign me off for a week which really didn't help, am back on antidepressants they don't seem to help either
Did you tell them exactly how you were feeling? How long were you on antidepressants before? Were you taking them evert day and for a prolonged period?
Sorry for all the questions
How long were you on ADs for previous? are you back on the same ones? It takes 4-8 weeks for ADs to get into your system, love, it’s not an instant cure, I’m afraid.
As for work, the doctor is limited to how they can help and signing you off may have given you time to weigh up your options. From their point of view, getting on top of the depression with ADs can help you manage work issues better. In terms of the practicalities, an organisation like Citizens Advice www.citizensadvice.org.uk May be able to help you understand your rights and what you are able to do to help with it
I did but I didn't get any sympathy. I was taking antidepressants before for about five years because of being made redundant, had been doing without them now for three years now I have a new job and I've had this set back, can't talk to the folks at home without having a slanging match.
That's ok I appreciate you taking the time to talk to me
Paula's right, they take time to work. Also, sometimes you'll find that the first, or even the second med won't work and it takes a while to find the right med or dose. If you're not happy with what the doctor has said then you are entitled to go and ask for a second opinion. You can also ask if there are any doctors who have an interest in mental health. Can you self-refer for counselling?
Thanks I don't think I can self refer. I'm just a bit all over the place and don't have anybody to talk to which is really really hard I don't know where to turn
Keep talking to us, lovely. Are you in an union?
Thanks I appreciate your advice and your kindness. Unfortunately I'm not in a union.
Thanks I'll give it a try. Can I keep chatting here though I'm in a right old predicament at the mo, need some friends to help me feel less alone
You can always chat here lovely, chat here as much or as little as you like :)
Thanks that's good to know I'm finding things really difficult to cope with in a dark place right now
We all understand here (panda)
Thanks I love the panda it's a real cutie pie. I'm going to log off now for half a hour need to go and get some lunch. Can we talk later?
Someone will always reply, it may take a while some days but someone will always reply to you
Ok thanks I'll be back in a while then see you later.
Oh what a situation. Did you see your regular GP? Can you see someone different?
Why can't you tell anyone around you about how you are feeling?
Trying to get an appointment is really difficult so not sure when I can go back. Saw my regular GP he made me feel as though I was wasting his time. The people here aren't even talking to me after what happened, the folks at home aren't any help
Are you in a relationship? Could you talk to your partner?
I completely understand how difficult it is to bring up the subject of poor mental health. It's still considered a taboo subject here, and unfortunately people are suffering in silence.
I've been a member here for a while and it's very difficult to find kinder more understanding people anywhere. Someone always answers, and someone else has been through what you're going through. Please keep talking, it really helps.
I split up with my boyfriend a while ago so I don't really have anybody to confide in. Thanks for your reply it helps a little knowing there's somebody to talk to. I find it hard when there's nobody around
Thanks it's nice to know there are people out there who care
It's lovely to meet you.
Thanks it's lovely to meet you too. I feel as though I have somebody looking out for me in my darkest hour, and as a newbie here I'm very much still trying to find my feet.
Hi. I'm sorry you're having such a horrible time. It's awful how much a job can impact our whole life. I haven't got any big words of wisdom or advice that you haven't already had. Just keep talking is the best thing. It helps to get things straight in your head sometimes. And do give the meds time. I've been on a new AD for 3 weeks and it's only starting to make a difference. Unfortunately when we are struggling time feels very very long. You'll always find a kind word and listening ear here. Xx
Hi Thasc (hi) I know to my cost the effect work related problems can have on your mental health and well being. Is it possible to resolve things at work? As the others say anti-depressants can take a while before they take effect.
Hi. Keep talking on here, there’s always somebody around to listen, offer some kind words and there’s even some that offer hugs! Take care.
