Hi everyone, my name is Jason (middle name is Corvus, I go by either!), I'm 25 and I'm really struggling with my depression, so I've joined here hopefully for some advice, or to just feel less alone. I'd been doing really well with my depression the last few years, hardly any bad days, but the past few weeks it's been so bad again I know I can't get through it without extra resources this time. So yeah, that's why I've joined.

Hi Jason as soon as I saw Corvus I immediately thought of birds specifically crows an unusual name and one I like far better than my very common middle name.
We're a very friendly group of people who have/are suffering from depression or have friends or family who suffer. Are you under treatment from a doctor and taking medication and/or having therapy?

What have your experiences been like?
With doctors? Well, I have physical health problems (for about ten years, it's the trigger for my depression), and all but a couple have been bad, mostly with just refusing to listen to my experiences with the treatment they'd keep prescribing. Like when I didn't improve, they'd tell me I was just neglecting my health rather than considering that there was something else wrong with me. In ten years, only one of them ever considered the impact it might have been having on my mental health, and did that mental health questionnaire thing to see if I could benefit from therapy. Before he suggested I might have depression, I never even considered it, so thank god he noticed something was off.Quote:

That is a problem I used to see the same GP every time I went to the docs, when he retired it's a different person I see every visit (doctors seem to come and go) so it's a bit like pot luck what you get. I think it'd be worth seeing a GP though.
There are ways to help but you’re never going to have access to them if you don’t see your GP.
Edit: sorry meant to say. Reason I asked your age is because from experience with my daughter I believe that doctors sometimes are more cautious with treating a teenager with MH issues. If they also believed your issues are related to physical health, that may have affected any decision. You’re an adult now, it’s worth talking to them about your options
Thanks to everyone for being welcoming and helpful :) I suppose over the years I've gotten so used to avoiding doctors for everything out of habit, but maybe I am at a point where I need the kind of help that I need to go to a doctor for. I have less anxiety than I used to so hoping therapy can be an option. Appreciate all of the friendly advice!
