I've just found this form in an attempt to find some community support with my depression. I'm a uk guy, just turned 49 and have had depressive episodes for many years...

Hi Suzi and Stella...thanks for responding. At the moment i'm doing all the wrong things to be honest, not enough exercise and probably over using alcohol. I did have a conversation with a telephone counselor earlier on, provided by my employer, which helped a bit.

I'm going to contact my GP to explore alternative medication, i'm on citalopram and Amitriptyline at the moment... I do have some family support, its just been a dark day today, but that's ok... its a new day tmrw

Hunni, alcohol reduces the effectiveness of ADs as well as lowering mood so it’s not going to help you. How much are you drinking?

Paula's right, alcohol is a depressant and really messes things up. It's great you've started talking with a counsellor. Is this to be a regular thing?

I've been on Citalopram for years on various doses, Ami is new for night time as i don't sleep well. Regarding Alcohol, the plan is to only have a drink at the weekend, i think its only increased over these past few months when a lot of my activities (yoga, sound baths, Buddhist meet ups) all stopped.

Its been a good enough day today...so that's good. I've adjusted my expectations during this current madness :-)

Hi Suzi... the counsellor support is provided by my work which i can access 24/7, i live alone so sometimes just sounding off to somebody helps

You can still do yoga, meditation etc through youtube or a lot of teachers are still practising virtually - it's not the same, but it's something that might help.
I notice you haven't said how much you have been drinking....

I'm glad today has been a good one and that you have that access to counselling - use it. It's not "sounding off" it's talking through things that are in your head.... :)
