Trauma timeline

Has anyone wrote a trauma timeline before? Or just wrote about their trauma in general? I don't really know where to start

Nope. Sounds like hell to me

I just want to feel like I'm doing something and I've heard from other people that it's something they'll ask me to do in therapy anyway.

It's not something I have ever been asked to do and it's not something I would even attempt without having therapy in place first... but that's just me..

I've written a few brief things here, but never the full amount or in a timeline...

Why are you trying to second guess what will happen in therapy? Every therapist has a different way of working and it will also vary based on what they think is right for you. I don’t see the point putting yourself through this if you don’t have the support in place should you need it.

I just don't know what else I'm supposed to do for myself

Sweetheart give yourself time. Maybe start with writing a list to show your Dr?

It seems I'm going to he a while off from speaking to a therapist. I don't have anyone to talk to, I figure writing would be the next best thing to get the thoughts out of my head. I'm fed up of feeling so sh**ty

While that would normally be a good way forward for some, with trauma it’s different and, as Suzi has suggested, doing that without the support of a GP or therapist might not benefit you

Have you thought about self referral specialist therapy options?

I have written about my trauma BUT it was at the advice and with the support of my psychologist. It was very difficult and did ultimately help but I needed the protection of my therapist whilst I did it.

I've looked into so many different things. There just seems to be a wait list for everything.

There really is sadly. There are so many people needing support and therapy.

I think you are expecting an easy fix for how you’re feeling but that’s never gonna happen. Even with the support of a therapist it takes weeks, months, even years of practice, using the tools you’ve been given to help you in the moment. You can’t just try something a few times and decide it doesn’t work. Remember you are trying to retrain you brain and that takes a long time. Even when you do master a few helpful techniques it won’t stop you feeling shit, it will only help you to cope and get through the tough times.

My friend messaged me earlier to ask if I was OK, as I seemed a bit down/ today, so I told her about how I've been feeling recently and the long wait for a therapist etc..... she is the first person, in real life, that I've kind of felt like I can trust.... even though I've only known her a few months, because we share similar experiences. As much as I love having these forums as a sounding board, having someone in real life will be helpful too
