Hi everyone,
I'm Chriggle, and I've suffered from depression for about 10 years on and off. I have had various types of treatment to get me through it,and at present I'm taking venlaxafine.
I have M.E. too so get very low when I am struggling with that, but try to make the best of it as I can.
Looking forward to chatting here,

Hi and welcome to the group.
I hope that you find this place as supportive as i do!!!
I can understand why you get low when you have an ME attack (sorry thats how a friend of mine used to describe it!).
Do you have a good support network or do you have to cope on your own?

I have a reasonable support network. DH's work aren't as understanding as we'd like (he's had to take today off as I can hardly move and have a meeting to go to at 2-30 so need a chaperone :( :( :(
I have some good friends who help as far as they can, and our families are really supportive. We moved to this area 7 months ago and knew no-one as we needed to start again, and its worked well for us. We used to live in a small town where everyone knew everyone elses business, it drove me hairpull.1
The M.E. flare ups do drive me bonkers. Yesterday I was fine, but 3 bad nights sleep, too much activity yesterday and a cold has meant that I can hardly move or walk today. I get so cross with myself as I have to rely so much on others, I hate being a burden to others. I have been so used to being self sufficient that it all comes as a culture shock. I also get very down when I see other (usually older people's) reactions to younger disabled people. I was on a bus the other day and an old couple gave me filthy looks from across the bus because I was sat in the seat for disabled/elderly people. I get a lot of that being only 30 (and many people comment that I don't actually look 30 either ;) blush.1 blush.1
That was a bit of a waffle, but did I explain it properly? My brain is like semolina pudding today laugh.1
I think you have explained yourself really well..
Glad that you have a support network, i know for my friend it meant so much.
You do seem really hard on yourself though. I am sure that the idea of you being a "burden" is one that you have created in all honesty. I am sure that noone else feels like that about you. I can say this honestly and from the heart as i have arthritis and there are days when i hurt so much that i cant even do up my bra and stuff.. i felt the same as you until marc (my oh) told me to stop being so stupid!!!!
I also totally understand what you mean about other peoples reactions. I used to work in a school for secondary age children with severe learning dificulties. We used to go out into our local community. Some of the reactions totally shocked me.. how parents deal with it on a daily basis surprises me!
Hey i am nearly 28 and (apparantly although not today!!) dont look it either so again i am so on your wave length so to speak!!!!! Sod the lot of them!!!!
anyway i have written an essay, but hope that it helps in some small way!!
and if this is you with a brain like semolina pudding i cant wait to chat to you when its not!!!!! laugh.1 laugh.1 hands,1

The venlaxafine is fine on a day to day basis, its partly there to help my sleep patterns (the M.E. Plays havoc with my sleep) although if you forget more than one it can really mess you around. Just before Christmas I missed 2 in a row so went 3 days without and had a horrible episode. I was very panicy and aggitated. I shut all the doors and curtains and curled up in bed with the lights off. It was horrid as I felt someone was watching me and I was totally paranoid. I couldn't bear DH touching me either. It took a few days and some diazapam to sort me out while I continued with the venlaxafine.
I have noticed that I've put on weight and have a very low sex drive with them too. I know some people feel numb on them, but that hasn't happened to me. In the past I've used citalopram and escitalopram (I had panic disorder after my mum died) and I find venlaxafine suits me better than these.
