View Full Version : March 2023 General Chat

It's been a while since we had one of these, just a general chit-chat kind of thread...

For me today, the house 2 doors is having their driveway redone. This has meant kango hammering, mini digging etc almost constantly since early this morning. I'm grateful they stopped for an hour earlier, and I'm hoping that the rain has meant they have stopped for the day now!

I've an online in person lecture tonight and I'm really hoping it's going to be easier than the last one as I'm ready to curl up and nap now!

Ouch…..

My days been ok. Worked this morning and decided to crash and watch the documentary on the people that dug up Richard III. Interesting, if you like that sort of thing. The kids are joining us all for The Last of Us and dinner night, later :)

Suzi
06-03-23, 05:06 PM
That sounds fun tonight. Not seen that series - I assume it's good?

Paula
06-03-23, 05:59 PM
Really good. And a rarity in that all five of us watch it. I’m going to miss it just for the fact we’ve had all the kids here every Monday night while it’s been running ;)

I have cramp which is really uncomfortable, I have to redo my proforma as it has to be quantitative date and not qualitative and I missed that in the instructions, and I should be at my writers group but feeling crap, never mind that I would have been later anyway due to messing about trying to get Moo sorted after swimming!

Suzi
07-03-23, 09:14 AM
Paula, are you on the lookout for another series to do the same with? Will check out your recommendation!

Oh no Jaq! I hate it when you misread something which then means you have to redo a huge percentage. How's the cramp? Are you resting and pacing?

Today is cold, and noisy with them on day 2 of digging up the drive 2 doors down... I'm not loving the noise. Crash is on alert as there are lots of people walking past so we've shut the blind to try to help him settle.
Today I'm planning on getting some housework done - well, moving some of the stuff that's been dumped by F in the lounge, and sorting the kitchen a bit! But whether I'll get that done I'm not sure... Self care is coming first today.

Paula
07-03-23, 09:20 AM
Good to hear re self care! I’m not looking for another series - I’m leaving that up to the rest of them as anything I suggest will be shot down ;)

Jaq, how are you feeling..

Jaquaia
07-03-23, 10:27 AM
Still have the cramp, being a woman sucks at times. Got to go do my mum's meds this morning, then driving lesson this afternoon, homework with Moo, some uni work, and I'm going to make a point of doing some crafting as I have a new flower I want to try. Have to do my mum's meds today as J sees the specialist tomorrow.

I'm just muddling along today. Aisling started her second work experience yesterday. She's doing it in her old national school and loves it. I wasn't sure how she would get on because she hasn't had much dealings with children younger than her. But she's actually looking at courses to become a national school teacher in college.

Paula
07-03-23, 01:33 PM
Oh wow! That’s awesome :). If she’s anything like her mum she’d be fantastic.

I’ve taken the plunge and chopped all my hair off. I’ve now got a pixie cut, for the first time in a while

Suzi
07-03-23, 08:22 PM
*Sending warm heat pad hugs and chocolate to you Jaq

Woohoo Magie that's awesome! I'm so pleased she's loving it! Paula's right, if she's anything like you then she'll be amazingly brilliant!

OO what made you decide that Paula? Are you pleased with it? What does Si think?

Paula
07-03-23, 08:50 PM
I just got fed up of the bob. Si loves it - he always preferred my hair short :)

Thing is, you'd look gorgeous no matter what!

We had snow! Not lots and it didn't settle, but we still had it! Oh, and Marc got a call from Ben warning him that it's getting really snowy and icy in Wales and Marc is meant to be going there over the weekend... Leaving Fern and me to play here.

Today Marc and I are going to look at electric wheelchairs. I think it's time. It's something I've been struggling with, but I think it would give me more independence and the ability to do things I want to do more. For example, not all trains allow a mobility scooter, but they do allow all wheelchairs, going in and around the shops would be easier etc etc

Oh qnd it's blinking freezing here!

Paula
08-03-23, 12:23 PM
I think that’s a very good idea - they are so much more manageable.

We have proper snow - grrrrrr

Suzi
08-03-23, 05:52 PM
Well, I now have a brand-new electric wheelchair! We weren't going with the intention to buy, but the person we had was so lovely, didn't make me feel stupid (or too fat which is something I've had in other shops when we were looking at a mobility scooter) and even said that we could go away and really think about it. No upselling, took loads of time so I thought it was better to get her when it was a shop that if I had a problem I could take her back and get them to look at her. Really pleased with her and as I've still not regained the feeling in my thumb it's been really difficult to use the lever controls on Tallulah. It means I can go on all trains and she's flight ready too!
But I'm amazed at how exhausted I am since the appointment! I'm also trying to justify the cost that I've spent on me... It's only been possible since my inheritance has come in and I know it's something my parents would both have seen was a good thing, but it's still the most I've spent on me.... But Marc and Hazel have both told me off for talking like that lol

Paula
08-03-23, 05:54 PM
So they should! You’re important, this’ll make a huge difference to you, and to them

Jaquaia
08-03-23, 05:55 PM
You deserve it. You deserve to be able to go to all the theatre you want with as much independence as you can. You deserve to be able to do what you want without worrying about getting around. Marc and Hazel are right!

Suzi
08-03-23, 06:31 PM
Thank you both! Marc's just going to make up something so we can use her with the hoist I have! It also means I can just get on the train to see Haz/Fern and save those spoons I need for driving thee and back... It means I can take Fern to the Tate Modern, and we can have a little wander around London - and use buses etc. It should just make it easier...

Paula
08-03-23, 06:55 PM
And happier :)

Suzi
08-03-23, 09:52 PM
I knew you'd get it. Anyway just been out to Sainsbury's for a little tryout and she's fabulous! So much easier to use with a non-feeling thumb, didn't feel like I was in the way as much and my shoulders are so sore from rather using crutches or using my arms straighter for using Tallulah..

Jaquaia
08-03-23, 09:58 PM
Does that mean you can accept that you were right to spend the money on yourself? ;)

Suzi
08-03-23, 09:59 PM
Erm.. Maybe...

Paula
08-03-23, 10:14 PM
Erm totally

Suzi
08-03-23, 10:57 PM
Lol... I love you guys...

Strugglingmum
09-03-23, 01:24 PM
Oh Suzi I am so pleased for you. Sounds perfect.
Enjoy your freedom

Suzi
09-03-23, 06:17 PM
Thank you so much!

magie06
10-03-23, 03:10 PM
Enjoy the freedom you now have. Does this machine have a name yet? Maybe because it's nearly saint Patrick's day, you could go for something Irish, like Sinead or Oisin.

Suzi
10-03-23, 05:39 PM
Thank you! She doesn't currently have a name, but I like your thinking ;)

Paula
10-03-23, 07:28 PM
Or maybe Mae?

Suzi
10-03-23, 09:24 PM
Lots of things to work through, I need to "meet her" properly lol (and yes I know that sounds crazy....)

Paula
14-03-23, 09:19 AM
How’s everybody doing? I’m going to be resting and doing my assignment today, though my body definitely wants me to be 100% resting! Hey ho, the things we have to do

Suzi
14-03-23, 10:11 AM
Lol.. I'm going to be checking through my transcription and analysing the data for my dissertation. But my body too, would rather be 100% resting - but I did that most of yesterday!

Good luck with your study, may it be kind to you!

Strugglingmum
14-03-23, 10:23 AM
Gosh such studious plans. I'm on the sofa, watching Mafs Australia and sewing buttons on an order

Suzi
14-03-23, 12:49 PM
That sounds like a brilliant way tp spend today!

Jaquaia
14-03-23, 03:34 PM
I've had my driving lesson, going to unwind for a little while and then do some uni work. Tired today

Paula
14-03-23, 03:48 PM
I’ve finished assignment #4 - a day quicker than I thought!

Suzi
14-03-23, 08:09 PM
Well done everyone!
I prescribe rest, rest and more rest tonight!

I've still got presents to wrap! Who'd have thought my baby is going to be 18 tomorrow?! Looking back at the week before Christmas, we might never have made it to this day. It's incredibly emotional.

Paula
14-03-23, 08:43 PM
Súper proud of you all, you’ve been through so much yet come back stronger

Suzi
14-03-23, 10:47 PM
Thank you! I'd rather not relive it at all though!

Paula
14-03-23, 10:48 PM
No…..

Suzi
19-03-23, 12:14 PM
Happy Mother's Day to anyone celebrating (human, feline or canine or any other part of your family) or celebrating their mother, or just having today as an extra special cake day! :)

Paula
19-03-23, 02:59 PM
My daughter knows me (Jess). I got gin and gin flavoured chocolate!

Strugglingmum
19-03-23, 08:31 PM
I got flowers and chocolate. Very blessed to have all 3 here for dinner.

Suzi
19-03-23, 09:10 PM
So glad you've both had good days! I've been spoilt with a disney villians cup with a straw and a daffodil lego kit from Hazel who is also cooking me dinner and I got a birthday bear proper Care Bear (something we talked about months ago)! Very spoilt!

Jaquaia
20-03-23, 06:23 AM
I got a rabbit toy from Moo and a book from Thomas before they went back to their mother's, then spent all day ignoring social media and reading the last Robert Galbraith novel

magie06
20-03-23, 12:11 PM
I got a Peppa pig card, and chocolate and chocolate and chocolate. Does Aisling know that I might like chocolate?

Suzi
25-03-23, 01:12 PM
How are you all? Are you having bizarre weather too? One minute it's sunny, the next it's almost a full-on storm with wind and rain!

We weren't expecting any this year, but our pond has had so much frogspawn and loads of them have hatched! My wrigglies are swimming around and eating broccoli!
How's things with you?

Jaquaia
25-03-23, 01:40 PM
Yep, bright sunshine one minute, looking like torrential rain the next!

J is working a rest day, T is one the Xbox and A has been taken out by the in-laws (about bloody time!). I'm sat contemplating gutting the kitchen to avoid uni work...

Paula
25-03-23, 02:00 PM
Broccoli?

Suzi
25-03-23, 09:53 PM
Which one won Jaq? Kitchen or uni?

Yup, they love steamed broccoli! They also love cucumber, but not as much as broccoli ;)

Did anyone else see "the night of musicals" on BBC1 tonight? We loved it! So many shows that we want to go and see!!

Jaquaia
25-03-23, 10:33 PM
Kitchen! But A helped!

Suzi
26-03-23, 10:52 AM
Glad A helped!

What's on the agenda today?

Jaquaia
26-03-23, 11:23 AM
Shopping and torturing T by making him come with us (giggle)

Suzi
26-03-23, 06:10 PM
(rofl) Poor T! Lol

Jaquaia
26-03-23, 07:01 PM
Ok, we didn't make him go with us in the end, but we didn't tell him he could stay home until he was in the car (rofl)

Suzi
26-03-23, 07:28 PM
Aww!

Hope the rest of your day has been good with some pacing?

Jaquaia
26-03-23, 08:56 PM
I cooked tea, threatened to eat mine on my own as I'm sick of the messing about at mealtimes and have wanted to kill people as I could hear them eating... I may be a little irritable...

Paula
26-03-23, 09:47 PM
Hmm totm?

Jaquaia
26-03-23, 10:09 PM
Probably coming up

Suzi
27-03-23, 08:53 AM
Hope it's calmed down a little....

Jaquaia
27-03-23, 10:28 AM
It doesn't help that I'm exhausted. I feel like I'm wading through treacle this morning

Suzi
27-03-23, 01:22 PM
(hugs) Sending much love and sympathy...

Had my last counselling session this morning. Am sitting, catching up with Wild Isles and giving myself time to process..

Paula
27-03-23, 03:13 PM
Is it your last through choice?

Suzi
27-03-23, 03:24 PM
It was only meant to be a mid-length course and actually as I said to her today I feel stronger than I ever have regarding the trauma. I now feel I've been able to reclaim some of my power and I'm healing the little things (like being given lego just for me) and invalidation from my Mum... All these little things like having permission to say "no" when people try to hug me who I don't want to etc.. So many really simple things that I wouldn't have put together on my own...

Paula
27-03-23, 04:00 PM
Im so proud of you!

Jaquaia
27-03-23, 05:15 PM
You are awesome (panda)

Suzi
27-03-23, 08:22 PM
Thank you, I've tried to be open and honest throughout it and allowed myself the time and space to work through things that we've talked about over the week before I saw her next. She is amazing, such a warm and lovely lady, someone I really gelled with. So it's been really good. I'm not "cured" and there will still be things like flashbacks etc, but I now have lots of coping strategies which have been really positive for me.

Strugglingmum
27-03-23, 10:33 PM
You're awesome!!

Suzi
28-03-23, 10:49 AM
Thank you.

How are you all doing today? What's going on? What's the weather like?

It's freezing cold here today! Today is a definite rest day for me, so I'm going to stay on the sofa, watching stuff on tv, writing a piece that I've been asked to and working on several crochet projects!

Paula
28-03-23, 11:50 AM
Sounds like a good day.

My riser recliner has been delivered (party)

Jaquaia
28-03-23, 03:58 PM
I keep messing up the same roundabout! I'm so frustrated with myself but I am not going to let it beat me!

Paula
28-03-23, 04:19 PM
Maybe you should not do it for a couple of lessons?

Jaquaia
28-03-23, 04:34 PM
I hadn't done it for a few weeks but started my lesson from my mums. I will get it sussed. Bob said other than that, my lesson would have been a solid pass!

Suzi
29-03-23, 10:47 AM
We all still have nightmare roundabouts - tbh we've a couple round here that I'd still avoid every time I can ;)

Paula
29-03-23, 10:50 AM
Suzi’s right. Basingstoke is called the doughnut city because it has so many roundabouts so anyone who learnt to drive here has to be an expert on them. And I still get it wrong sometimes ;)

Paula
01-04-23, 11:56 AM
Hi all, just thought I’d check in and see how you’re all doing. What’s your plans for the weekend?

Jaquaia
01-04-23, 05:22 PM
Reading and uni work, very rock and roll!
