On International Women’s Day we need to #BreakTheBias around maternal mental health. The statistics are still appalling - 55% of women are not getting the care they need when struggling with their mental health during and/or after pregnancy. This needs to change!

I was overlooked when I had Robert but I have to say the moment I fell pregnant with Martin I was instantly referred to secondary care. Of course since then I’ve not had anywhere near that level of care.

I had PND with each of mine. One midwife told me to "just get over it" and asked "Why you not ask for tummy tuck when you have caesarean? You then not be so fat!" I kid you not. This when I was already in a rubbish state....

After that I didn't talk to anyone about what was going on in my head - what was the point?
However my HV was fabulous after she was called to me rocking in the reception of our Drs when they'd forgotten to book me in for my 8 week check with F. I had hoped that things had got better in the last 16 years....

So had I. I hate that so many women are being failed, still
