It's a type of primula probably a cultivated form allied to the wild oxlip as to the species can't say as there are hundreds of species.
Edit: Probably (don't quote me) Primula auricular which has either purple or yellow flowers.

That reminds me of a hyacinth might be able to tell when the flowers open fully, unless you guys know better ;) are they growing from bulbs?

No idea!!! They were here before me! I've suggested splitting them a little once they've finished flowering as they're all clumped up. My m-i-l may know what they are but she can't really come round and tell me!

This is similar to a snowdrop but the flowers are in groups instead of single and flowers later in the year, the common name is snowflake and the genus is leucojum and grows from a bulb (I looked it up, the leucojum bit ;) )

I've seen that yellow flowered shrub somewhere but the name of it escapes me, the leaves of the pale blue flower look hauntingly familiar.

Flower looks like a forget me not but the leaf is nothing like it the leaves of forget me nots are of an elongated oval shape.
