I have serious problem with waking up. When I hear the alarm, my first thought is that it is a shame to be alive. Every morning I cry because I woke up. Sometimes it goes away fast, some days that feeling sticks around. It is awful. Please don't get worried, I have no urge to Hurt anyone, including myself. I'm just feeling so desperate to stay asleep, I don't know where it comes from. But something happened. My guy built me a chicken coop, and brought me a rooster and a chicken. For few days now I have woken up to that sounds that rooster keeps... What is it In english? Anyway. I smiled. Every time. Can something this simple really make a change this huge? I sit at the cage talking to my bird (kids named them Dracula and Martha) and feel alot better. I have many pets, and they all help me to push through every day, but something waking up to that sound of that silly rooster made a big jump up on the ladder. I still dislike mornings with passion, but I haven't cried. I just thought I'd like to share this with you guys. I hope everyone has something in their life that makes everything better. Like a noisy rooster named after a vampire.

The sound of the rooster - Cock-a-doodle-do! Awesome names! I'm so glad that they have made such a difference to you.

OldMike

I just wake up to the sound of a radio, waking up to the sound of a rooster crowing would make a pleasant change.

Martha and Dracula I like those names and yes pets help a lot of people get through the day.

I’m so glad your birds have made things that much easier, mines my dogs (greyhounds) called Polo and Luna :)

Sissy
23-05-18, 10:05 AM
Yea animals make a big change. I got two mixed breed dogs, Tosca and Dante. Three rescue cats Mavis, Johnny and Quinnie. Boa constrictor called Elviira, and a tarantula called Pikku Myy (little my from moomies). And now those chickens. He told me he gets me at least 2 more so the Dracula can have a flock he deserves. We thought we'd name those Morticia and Wanda (rofl)

OldMike
23-05-18, 10:10 AM
I love all those animals except maybe the tarantula (too many legs). Dracula really wants more than one lady :)

Sissy
23-05-18, 10:45 AM
Yea I have been studying about chickens alot now, and we are building a bigger house for them so they can stay warm and healthy over winter. Now they are fine In the smaller coop without insulation but winters in here can be brutal. I haven't been able to work much for several years, but things like this help me stay functional. And eggs are just a bonus. I didn't realise how soft chicken are. Or that they like to sit on your lap or like eating treats from hand. I simply thought they see people just as feeding machines. I was so so wrong.

Suzi
23-05-18, 11:43 AM
Chickens can be really soft and gentle. We have 3 rescue dogs Casey - who has just turned 15 from Romania, Moiya - 9 also from Romania and Crash - 18 months from Spain! We'd all be lost without them!
We also have fish and lots and lots of wild tadpoles and frogs in the garden!

Look at my babies... I am so happy. Dracula has pretty colours, don't you think?

Flo

Morning sissy....what lovely chickens!! You can tell from their bright red combs that they're very healthy and happy! I want to get a few chickens too! But neighbours say they smell a lot in summer and my neighbours are very close! But I can't see the problems if they're cleaned every day. I don't want to fall out with my neighbours! By the way, I get up early in the mornings cos I can't sleep!.....MORNING!!!!!! (giggle)

Sissy
24-05-18, 07:06 AM
Morning Flo! They do smell a wee bit, but I rake the area they are in every day and put all In closed compost. Dog poop smells more than my chickens here, and I rake that away daily too. So I am pretty sure you can keep them quite odourless by cleaning the caging daily

Flo
24-05-18, 08:33 AM
Thanks for that sissy...the coop I'm thinking of getting has a tray that you can slide out from the outside so you can rid of poo etc., so I can't see much of a problem.

OldMike
24-05-18, 08:41 AM
A happy rooster and a happy hen that's beautiful :)

Paula
24-05-18, 09:33 AM
Ah, the subject of chicken poo never ceases to cheer me up of a morning ;). They are very cute

Suzi
24-05-18, 09:38 AM
Your chickens look awesome!

Sissy
24-05-18, 10:32 AM
Thanks everyone! And what comes to smelly part, I am sure Flo can deal with that. Biggest issue here is composting the waste, it stinks unless you have closed compost or can take the dirty sawdust/pellets/whatever you use away from neighbourhood. I don't really see any problem In there

It's hard to be sad when these greet you. Rudi is our friend's dog we often take care of. He is heavier and taller than Le boyfriend, even he is no shorty either... Funny morning.

Dracula wasn't amused getting only one can of tuna... Small can. He is all like.. "woman, you better fetch me more or I poop all over the place"

Paula

(rofl)

OldMike
06-06-18, 08:53 AM
I didn't think chickens and roosters ate tuna I thought they ate corn and grains and stuff, shows how little I know. He's a magnificent beast isn't he, you'd better give a big can of tuna from now on :)

Suzi
06-06-18, 08:53 AM

According to my brother, who used to have 3 chickens, they eat anything - he called them an avian garbage disposal

Sissy
06-06-18, 02:25 PM
They do eat anything. Exept avocado kills them. But anything from lawn mowings to cat food, and tree branches to hot dogs will do.

OldMike
06-06-18, 03:03 PM
I just Googled and like you and Paula said they'll eat almost anything so it's just a matter of feeding them stuff that keeps them healthy I suppose they are a bit like us humans in that respect.

Suzi

Funny how the size does not matter at all. We got the little fellow home just yesterday and it looks like he had always been here.

Suzi
10-06-18, 11:18 AM
Is that a puppy?

OldMike
10-06-18, 11:21 AM
He looks so tiny (and cute) will he grow as large as the big fellow next to him?

Sissy
10-06-18, 11:29 AM
No, Rudi is a great dane, Dante is a mix of four breeds. Lapland dog, doberman, Alaskan malamute and greyhound. No idea how big he will be, but I assume some where around a husky size

Suzi
10-06-18, 11:35 AM
Aww he's cute! That's a really strange mix of breeds! He'll be fantastic!

OldMike
10-06-18, 11:38 AM
Dante I love that name he's so adorable and husky size is a nice size not too big and not too small.

Paula
10-06-18, 12:05 PM

10-06-18, 01:55 PM
So cute!! Although I bet any other dog would look cute beside a great dane! (rofl)

Sissy
11-06-18, 05:06 PM
I think you are right In there... Great dane is majestic and stuff, but cute won't quite fit in my honest opinion (rofl)

Sissy
14-06-18, 09:26 PM
My dear Martha had to be put away today... She had prolapsis (I think that's how it is spelt) and nothing could be done. I have cried my eyes out. I know it was just a hen, but I loved her. I'm not showing you the photo of her wound, it looked horrendous and I will highest likely have nightmares about it. Feels so bad I could not do anything else but let her go. My very first chicken... It really feels like the end of the world. :(

Paula

Oh sweetheart, I’m sorry. She wasn’t just a hen, she was your hen and one of your family (panda)

OldMike
14-06-18, 11:33 PM
I'm so sorry Sissy she was a new addition to your family and her time with you was far too short (panda)

Suzi
15-06-18, 09:49 AM
Oh hunni I'm so sorry. We lost our dog Cassie 2 weeks ago and it's been so hard. She wasn't "just a hen" at all. You loved her and that made her far more than that.
As and when you are ready there a so many hens who are rescued from battery/cage farming who need love and protection if you were ever interested...

Take your time to grieve for your loss x

Sissy
18-06-18, 09:31 PM
I could not stand seeing Dracula being lonely, so I got him 3 very young hens... Meet Wanda, Eunice and Morticia.

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q56/Sabertooth79/Lemmikit/IMG_20180615_212414_zpspz8ohq9z.jpg

We also are making roof to the henhouse, so slowly but surely it will get done. Love my guy. He is putting so much money and effort to my sweethearts. And they have laid eggs already. I miss my white granny hen, but these will keep me from going nutsies.

Suzi

Sissy
06-07-18, 06:02 PM
Life really is unfair. I have been doing pretty bad lately In general. But waking up to this kind of nightmare is devastating, and sort of pushed me over the edge. I have a massive urge to give up, and people around me watch over me every moment fearing I'm going to do something stupid. I might go back to hospital for a short period to get my self back In balance. I'm still begging my family not to send me in, but they may be right. Pretty many things have gone wrong lately, and disapointments keep coming one after another. I feel like drowning really. Sorry if I am dragging any of you down with me, I really don't want to depress anyone. Just too much going on, and I really loved my chicken.

OldMike
06-07-18, 06:49 PM
I'm so sorry Sissy ;(

Sweetie, talking here can help and we will be listening, however you’re feeling (and if you’re worried about the content and if it’s relevant, you can add a trigger warning to your thread so members have the choice to avoid any triggers)

Flo
07-07-18, 09:12 AM
Oh Sissy what a shame!. Paula's right. We're here to listen and try to help, so let go of your feelings. Do whatever it takes to get you back on track again! A fox killed all 18 of my daughters hens some years ago. It was early daylight. She didn't have an electric fence. All is not lost darling..you can start again! When you feel better - and you will! - think of getting a goose or two as well as the chickens. They make good guard dogs! Thinking of you.(panda)

Suzi
07-07-18, 11:02 AM
Oh sweetheart, please keep talking about how you are feeling, it's so important...

Sissy
07-07-18, 11:56 AM
I feel horrible for my sons. They loved those hens just as much as I did. They were almost like emotional support animals for them. Thank goodness our bunny wasn't there too, we would have much worse disaster at hand if we had lost that one too

Suzi
07-07-18, 04:59 PM
I know full well the damage that foxes can do and I'm so sorry for you all... Are you reinforcing the chicken house?

OldMike
07-07-18, 07:10 PM
Foxes are good at digging under fences so the chicken house will need protection from them getting in from underneath. Don't give up I know it is upsetting, do a bit of research on the best fox proof chicken houses. As Flo says geese are good guard dogs (or that guard geese) so may be worth looking in to that (not sure if geese are good at detering foxes but worth looking in to).

Sissy keep posting here, as we'll all lend a friendly ear, and maybe come up with some helpful suggestions.

Sissy
07-07-18, 07:33 PM
We have been building our chicken house like it was some sort of holy cathedral. We have been doing research about fencing and how to fox and badger proof the fence. We are tossing a full fortune In this, but I could not care less. I'm not going to lose any more birds to a fox without a fight.. It hurts so bad. I have cried so much my head aches, it feels like my skull was slitting in half.

Suzi
08-07-18, 11:01 AM

Sissy
08-07-18, 08:25 PM
A completely stranger promised us a flock with a small price. He promised to keep it till we get our place ready.. It makes me feel slightly better, even I still cry after my babies. Sometimes people reach out to you with helping hand when you least expect. Today we finished insulation to new coop. Our winters are brutal, so we make sure our birds stay warm.

Suzi
08-07-18, 10:31 PM
I love that your birds get so well loved and thought about - I have images now in my head of chickens tucked up with hot sweet tea and a nice crochet blanket to keep them warm!

Sissy
09-07-18, 01:35 AM
Aww. Well I love all animals exept ants and anything that wants to suck out my blood. If mosquitoes sucked out fat instead of blood, I'd run out nake all day...:(:
My animals get treated like any other family member, so yea. I even teased my guy telling our hens want curtains, carpets and chanleriers (or how you spell that). He wasn't impressed.. (smirk)

Suzi
09-07-18, 09:29 AM
I'm not a fan of ants, spiders and def not mosquitoes - although they seem to think I'm delicious!
I think they should have curtains and comfy sofas! :)

We should be able to start painting the inside of our coop this week. I got my first birds in may. It has been a bumpy ride with them over all. So many obstacles and so much bad luck. But I won't give up. The project will take abit time, but we will makes it as good as we can. It is hard waking up without Dracula, and I can't buy eggs from store. I just can't. But we are already almost done with the walls and ceiling, so I can start chalking the walls and what not. And Jani (that's how Le dude is called) works long shifts, but still manages to push after work with my coop. This relationship is no fairytale, I'm no regular Princess and my Prince is covered in tattoos (so am I), smokes in chains and drinks like a machine. But he loves me and my sons and stands up for us no matter what keeps coming. And yea he drinks but not like the friend I told about. I can have 2 beers and I giggle. So anyone with better tolerance is a drinkin machine in my eyes. We have our problems like any couple, but he once told me somethin very eye opening. He said love does not need to be perfect, it needs to be unconditional, and it needs to be real. And if you need to force it, it is no love at all. And there it was. Wisest words I had heard in a long long time. I'd trust him with my life without blinking an eye any day. And if it wasn't for him, I'd be back in the hospital already.

Paula

And this is the I side this far. We still need to cut the windows straight, they look silly now. And soon I can start chalking the walls...

We have been chalking the chicken house walls and ceiling. Soon we can start building nesting areas, and all other stuff it needs. I am feeling pretty Well. "I am Groot" like the name, Paula will love that as it's from one of her favourite books.

Sissy
27-07-18, 01:18 PM
Hehe yea we call him Groot, or Ruuti which in our language actually means gunpowder. He is abit silly, but loves everything and every one. And he loves our Tosca more than anything else, and if dogs can have best buddies, that's what they are.

OldMike
29-07-18, 08:36 PM
Wow it is a really posh chicken coop :)

Sissy
29-07-18, 09:02 PM
I'm not that sure about the posh part... But we try to make it as functional and cozy for the chicken as we can. My mom had her kitchen renovated some time ago, and we recycled some of the old cabinets. It is good to have some storage space and table even in coop. Chalking the walls was messy business as you can tell.. Splatters all over the coop and tools. That nailgun is not my friend at all, it is heavy, loud and scary!

Suzi
29-07-18, 10:56 PM
Looks brilliant! You'll have very happy hens in there!

Sissy
01-08-18, 03:48 AM
Some mornings just feel impossible, don't they? I am having hard time without my chicken, so I am pushing my limits forcing myself working in the coop every morning. Hearing that alarm feels like someone tried to suck out my soul.. But soon we should be done. And then I get my new sweethearts home and can pamper them and wake up to rooster singing me the song of his people!

Waking up is an awful feeling with depression. I think its because sleeping is a relief from our miserable existence. It takes us away from our despairing mind into a state of fleeting, blissful unconsciousness.

As the day progresses our despair can edge out somewhat through eating, drinkin & distraction. The start of the day is often the bleakest because we can't see the wood from the trees. I hope u feel better. I'm also suffering & I wish I had a clear solution (blush).

Sissy
02-08-18, 06:56 PM
Actually, now Le dude took my alarm clock away, and wakes me up by giving me a Phone all in the morning. It is easier that way. He sometimes even leaves me Coffee in a thermos and breakfast if he has time before leaving for work. He leaves around 5 am, so usually he just calls me. It is still way better than the alarm for me. I really hope every one with rough mornings finds a softer way to start their day.

Slowly but surely.. We got a door assembled as Well as window on its place. The run needs a net on top of it as well, so owls and hawks won't get to my babies. Gotta clean all stuff laying in there away, and next weekend we take the road trip to pick up my hens. I am so excited.

Looks brilliant, you've done a fantastic job there.

Sissy
06-08-18, 09:09 AM
Thank you.. Le dude works in construction, so his skills and my visions have led to this. We are rather happy with the outcome. Alot to do still, but it will be done, and this time nothing will get to my birds. We are building another fence around whole backyard, and we will let our dogs guard it at nights. Dante is still a puppy, but already seems to have a guarding instinct there. Tosca is alerting about any activity she does not approve, and clearly is teaching Dante to do the same. I feel my birds will be safe under their watch.

Le Dude is cool to have come up with such an awesome design! Your birds are going to be so spoilt!

Sissy
06-08-18, 12:11 PM
He has been reading about keeping a flock almost as much as I have. We need air vents, lights and nests still, plus roof for the run. That should not be too difficult. I will flood the topic with pictures when we get all done and hens home. Luckily the heat wave is gone for now. We went from 32 celcius to 17 celcius, which is still rather warm to be Finland. But it feels like I need a cardigan!

You can have our 35 back... I hate it! I would love to want to need a cardigan! :)

It's not friday yet, but I'm a rebellious soul and tell you fab 5's for the moment. Because I feel happy, and because I can! And Le dude works 4 days per week, so it is almost like friday.

-sunday we go pick up my hens! I'm so happy!
-next thursday we start ridinglessons with my youngest son. It's been 15 years since I had to sell my own horse, but now I feel ready to pick up that hobby again.
-my mother's greenhouse is overflowing with crop, so we get cucumbers, zuchinies and tomatoes as much as we can eat, and they taste amazing! And kale. I love kale!
-my friends are getting married, and I am so happy for them.
-rain. We finally got rain, and all plants look so invigorated I can't do much else but smile.

I think there it was, my fab 5 right now. And tomorrow is friday, so yay!

OldMike

For one day only we'll make your post Fab 5's for Thursday :)

Yay thanks Sissy for sharing I'm sure you can repost these tomorrow on tomorrow's Fab 5's for Friday there's nothing better than home grown fruit and veg. Home grown tomatoes are so tasty compared to the plastic packed ones you buy at a supermarket.

They are still very young, two silkies (grey and white) and two kochin. The tiny ones.. I forgot how they call it in english. Le dude befriended the rooster immediately, and it kept sitting on his lap and shoulder all night

They look awesome - loving the name choices too!
Hi Le Dude! He looks very comfortable with the rooster! :) Nice to see his face too!

Sissy
12-08-18, 11:39 AM
Well, the rooster chose him. It is his bird. I am abit envying the instant bond they had, but as long as the rooster is happy, I am happy. And Le dude is happy. We are all happy!

Roosters try to flight, but that we knew would happeen, we just need to divide the henhouse I guess. They are all nice and kind birds towards people. We will figure this out sooner or later.

Looks like you have two roosters I thought you'd just have one as they are territorial. I can see your hens are going to have a good life.

Edit: The chicken house looks really well made :)

Sissy
13-08-18, 11:22 PM
Thanks, he really out effort in it. And we already got eggs. One white, and rest different shades of brown. We got those roosters with hens, so we had no chose but take them. Now we need to figure out what to do with them.

9 eggs in 2 days, I am amazed.. The big rooster gets a flock at my friend's farm, their rooster is old and does not do his job anymore. So everything should work out great

Went to get onions and there they were on kitchen counter. Colourful eggs! Kids love having fresh eggs from our own pets. Free range butt nuggets!

My friend has certain breed of chicken that lay green eggs, and another breed that lay very dark redishbrown eggs. If I remember correctly, those breeds were araucana and marans. I think I have to go and google it now.. Those birds are pretty. But I love mine as well, even they are not that special looking. They are special sort of funny though. That big rooster tried to feed me by stuffing cottage cheese in my sandals! She also has a rooster that is completely Black, breed is called ayam cemani. They said even Meat and bones are Black. I was baffled, never thought that could be possible.

In here many people have those tiny breeds even in apartment buildings. They make caging easy to clean and have a run in balcony. Big breeds would not do in those but silkies and seramas etc go fine in small place. Cleaned daily they won't even smell.

Beautiful pictures there Sissy, Piglet looks gorgeous, though Piglet seems a strange name for a hen but I like it :)

Sissy
05-09-18, 10:58 AM
My non verbal son named it after his favourite cartoon charachter from winnie the pooh. He says just few words, and Piglet (in our language Nasu) is one of them. Kristian turns soon 15, he is severely autistic, non verbal and feels no pain. He feels, but either he has insane tolerance towards pain, or it is not pain he feels, but something else. He may cut him self by accident, and won't realise it is bad. Or break wrist or twist a finger and not pay attention to possible wounds. So we need to keep an eye on him all the time. And yea "Nasu" is his hen. :D

Suzi
05-09-18, 11:41 AM
That's so awesome!
2 of mine and my husband have Aspergers and I used to teach kids who were severely autistic so I know how wonderful it is when they make such connections... To be fair I love Winnie the Pooh too! (My favourite is Tigger!)

What a beautiful photo of your son and Piglet! I'm so pleased that you have your new chickens. What a joy they are. Piglet is a beautiful colour...what breed is she?

Sissy
06-09-18, 08:40 AM
Piglet is mixed breed, I assume it has brahma in it. Cinderella is a frise silkie. We also have a white one called Snowhite. They are cute but so tiny still. Piglet on the other hand is a big mama. We put few eggs in incubator about a week ago, so we can see if we can get chicks. Started well , we can see a tiny heart in each when we Light a flashlight under the egg. It shows blood vessels and a small dot that is their heat already, meaning at least they were fertilised and Started to grow. We hope they get through whole process and hatch healthy lil babies

Suzi
06-09-18, 09:03 AM
Oh wow that's so exciting!! Will you keep all the chicks and develop your own flock - is it a "flock of chickens?" or somewhere I'm sure it's a "clutch" of chickens... Either which way it's still exciting!

How's your mood love? What about Le Dude? Your son? Are things OK between you and your friend?

CaterpillarGirl
06-09-18, 09:17 AM

Sissy
06-09-18, 11:53 AM
I am doing quite ok, and Le dude is working. He has been thinking about getting help with drinking, even he can stay sober if he want to. He just needs motivaation and support. What comes to my friend, she is a Hot mess. In a huge denial she blames everyone else and is (swear)faced drunk every day. My sons are all doing fine with their own things going on. We are about to run now with Sebastian, we have a riding lesson. And about hens, I think it is a flock, but I can be mistaken, would not be the first time. Nor the Last!

Suzi
06-09-18, 12:28 PM
How many boys do you have?
My father in law is an alcoholic and it's always everyone elses fault, never his so I do understand that... It's horrible.
I think Le Dude has a good plan to cut down alcohol...

Glad you're OK lovely x

My eldest and youngest have Aspies, as does Marc (my husband) so I have understandings of some of the particular issues that can arise!

I also think you're amazing!

Sissy
07-09-18, 09:05 AM
Yea aspergers is what my oldest one has, and I do too. Aspergers and add for me and Joonatan both. Kristian is the one with few words and not much sense of pain. Sebastian has adhd. And Le dude is in the middle of his tests, but he is a classic example of an untreated adhd, that is what we have been told even those tests are still un finished. But it is okay. We can deal with this! (y)

I don't doubt you for one second! You're awesome.

Sissy
08-09-18, 06:15 PM
Thank you. Right now I am feeling really down though. We just had agreed no drinkin when Kids are home... But something happened and I got my guy home drunk as a skunk. I feel so betrayed. But what can I do... Wait till he is sober and then scream blue murder? I am tried. I love this guy more than my own life. But I hate when I lose against booze. I sat with my hens for hours and just tried to calm down. Luckily Kids had alot of things to do and didn't really pay attention to him sleeping his head clear... I feel so lonely when this happens. It makes me so sad he picks a bottle over me and kids. Doesn't happeen often, but still it happens. And it breaks my heart.

Suzi
08-09-18, 09:12 PM
Oh sweetheart definitely talk to him when he sobers up. Do you know why he was drinking today?

Sissy
08-09-18, 09:22 PM
Because friends were giving him booze. Turning down a drink is too much to ask I guess. He is a heavy drinker. He does not do this often, but beer is there almost daily. And he just told me he needs to cut the habit... But I guess I have been in just as big denial as he, thinking this isn't bad yet. It is bad. And I can't put myself through this without breaking.

Paula
08-09-18, 09:29 PM
Do you think he would go to see his doctor and ask for help in stopping/cutting back?

Suzi
08-09-18, 09:38 PM
How much does he drink daily? If he is a heavy drinker and alcohol dependent just stopping could have very serious consequences. Could he cut down? What about swapping for alcohol free? But I would suggest seeing his dr and getting some help...

Sissy
08-09-18, 10:42 PM
Knowing his background, he has been drinkin since childhood. From 10 or 11 I assume. Beer during week is just some, 2 or 3. But weekend are a whole New story, and even he usually is not down right drunk, the beer has to be there. Now it was vodka, and I am sad. No holiday goes by without alcohol. I love this man so much it hurts, but I hate how I have to deal with disapointments with drinkin. This is nowehere close to the friend I have mentioned, but I guess alcoholism is not something you can keep at bay. Either you drink, or you don't. I don't want to be the one that has to be Hurt over and over. I know he loves us, but... Somehow the booze is stronger. And that is devastating.

Paula
09-09-18, 08:20 AM
Have you told him this?

Suzi
09-09-18, 11:05 AM
Tell him how you feel lovely.. But he needs to want to cut down/quit for himself...

Sissy
09-09-18, 11:53 AM
I have. He can have long periods of time sober, but then it happens again... I know it is an illness, and needs treatments, support and therapy. But so does my depression, and I sometimes Wonder if we drag each other to deeper in our problems. He carries me when I fall, am I the reason why he drinks? Because his drinkin sure as hell depresses me alot.

OldMike
09-09-18, 12:10 PM
He really has to want to stop drinking, your not the reason he drinks, alcohol can cause so many problems and I'm afraid I don't have the answer.

CaterpillarGirl
09-09-18, 01:00 PM
I have very similar issues with my fiance, he likes to have a drink every day but usually only 3 or 4, on the weekends it's much more, he knows I hate it when he comes home drunk but sometimes he does anyway (even though we don't live together and he has Sundays at home so he can drink and not upset me, sometimes he still comes to mine drunk on other days) it always makes me feel like he is choosing drink over us, even though he is not particularly bad when he is drunk, he's just not the man I fell in love with. To be fair he has recently started cutting back and not going to the pub every day, he is doing this for health reasons. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I understand your pain, it is so hard sometimes, but they are with us because they love us and we are now and always will be more important than the alcohol, even if it doesn't feel that way sometimes (bear)

Suzi
09-09-18, 08:49 PM
Thing is, all you can do is talk to them and explain it and how much it hurts you... Would he/they be prepared to get some help?

Sissy
10-09-18, 03:02 AM
I do really hope so. He kicked his drug addiktion years ago on his own. However, he says this is much harder. I wouldn't know, but I love him and want to help him.

Suzi
10-09-18, 09:45 AM
If he can kick drugs he can kick this! It's fantastic that he's been able to get clean from drugs.
Do you have something similar to Alcoholic's Anonymous in Finland?

Sissy
10-09-18, 02:33 PM
Yea we do. I had my own appointment with psychologist today, and I feel better already. I want to get him better, I don't want to see him drink his life away. He already has lost so many people. His both parents, grand parents and brother are dead. He used to live like there was nothing to lose. He has come a long way from the point where he was at when we met. Well we have know each other since childhood but that is another story. He says he got back his will to live. And it shows. But I guess relapses come and go. And I love how he is when he has all that energy being sober brings. We get so much done. We make plans for future. We do awesome things together. And life is lovely, even when it gets hard he brings light to darkness. And he says we do the same for him. But somehow the booze sneaks in every now and then, and it gets me so upset.

Suzi
10-09-18, 04:47 PM
Is it just when he goes out with friends? Would he consider swapping to alcohol free stuff?

Sissy
11-09-18, 06:12 AM
Swapping completely, no. But he said he will correctly his course again. And I know he can do it... I just Wonder how long till something makes him slip again. But I can not give up on someone who is so loving and caring. I want to help him. Truly...

Suzi
11-09-18, 08:43 AM
I'm glad you were able to talk to him about everything. I'm glad he's willing to stop. That's huge.

Sissy
12-09-18, 06:52 AM
Thanks. I know we get the Best sides of each other out, and I really love him for that too. For himself of course, but also for who I have become with him. I am more patient, serene and less prone to over reacting. Before being with me he could have been drunk for weeks straight. Drugs, alcohol, and bad decicions. Over and over. When we started this relationship he had already given up. Now, he is back to work, having life goals and will to build up a future with me and Kids. And it makes me happy. He makes me happy. And I want to keep him happy. He finally has a family, and I want him to be able to enjoy it. I don't want to see the love of my life to drown In alcohol related problems with his health and everything else that comes with it. He had a difficult childhood, and rough teenager years. He has done pretty much all dumb stuff in life, and paid high price for it. Been in jail, Lost his drivers licence, almost died in several occasions. Now he finally cares about his own life. Even he probably would not hesitate giving it for ours. And I would do the same for his. Mentioning kiddies here isn't even necessary, I believe it is self clear. Even he is not their father, he cares about them so deeply... I think it is rare to find someone that is willing to take someone elses children in their life like this. And I want him to stay healthy and happy... He deserves it.

Sissy
13-09-18, 10:10 AM
I have said this before, and will say many times in future too, but even if this not always a fairytale, I feel this is a story worth telling. We both have our past lives haunting us, and some of those traumas will be hard to deal with. But seeing your partner there infront of you, with all their rough edes and flaws and broken sides, and being able to stand there just as "bare" and broken knowing there won't be judgemental thoughts or mean words, just love, acceptance and will to make things work... There is nothing as soul soothing as that. He has a brilliant mind and awesome sense of humour. And he pretty much never gets angry. No matter how impossible I get for any reason imaginable. He may ask me who has peed in my cheerios, and that's when I usually realise I have formed a completely out of propotion snap out for something as silly as not finding matching socks. So yes, who cares about Prince Charming, I have found my bad boy covered in tattoos.

Hey guys. Everyone I have met here this far are awesome. People talk to each other with so much empathy, respect and understanding it is absolutely overwhelming, in the good way. There is so much love, caring and support in here. No Wonder I turn out awesome, because that's how this place makes me. Finally I can talk to someone, and get my mind working on things without anyone being insensitive, judgemental and down right belitling what is going on in my head. It is great to have a place like this. I try to find the same understanding and supportive way through life that I sense in here. And it works. Thanks for making me as awesome as you guys are, I wasn't guite patient, selfless or present for others like this before. When I got up from my darkest pit, actively changing the way I think and react to things have made a huge impact. Not only to me, but to my whole family, and I am so grateful for the example you guys showed. Thank you..

I had a very busy weekend, but it was also interesting and fun. We went to see one of our friends that is in rehab on Saturday, we got to take her to shopping in town, and she was so grateful getting out and have fun. Ofcourse it was heartbreaking to leave her there and come home, but she got a day away and hopefully soon can actually come home herself. Wish that other friend would do like this one, and get help for herself. Le dude spent all Sunday building roof for henhouse, and it is almost finished now. I on the other hand spent my Sunday with another friend and went to see some art in museum, had awesome Chinese food and she fixed my lashes. We really needed some girl bonding time. Kids spent their weekend with their dad, and everyone had fun. I feel really good and happy in general. It is nice to realise how well things are even at times everything feels downright impossible. I have friends who care, a family that loves me, and so much to be happy about. Today I feel like hugging the world. Hope everyone feels as great as I do right now, because everyone deserves it.

Aww they're amazing! Do they have names yet?

Sissy
24-09-18, 02:48 AM
Well.. No not really. We have been calling them perhana and samperi which are sort of bad words but not really that either. We have no idea if they are boys or girls yet so it is hard to name them. If they are girls we name them after my little sisters Salme and Rakel.

Any news on the third baby?

Sissy
25-09-18, 02:28 PM
I had to put it down this morning, it was suffering. I don't know what was wrong, but something definitely was not right. It felt bad, but was the right thing to do. I got these two, and I do everything in my power to raise them to healthy birds. Wish me luck!

Sissy

It felt bad, but in this situation I knew the baby would not make it, and letting it go would be the only option. I would have been a horribly selfish person to leave it suffering, just to avoid the horrible task. I am sad. But even a sort life is a complete one, and I am lucky that baby chick visited me even for a day only. I won't forget it.

They are 5 days old now, and I can already see tiny feathers coming to their wings. We want to incubate another batch hoping we get more than 2 living ones this time. But we want to learn more first. We love these tiny buggers to pieces!

We have been doing pretty fine. Le dude is really making sure my darkest days still have sunshine in them. And our birdies are so lovely, and we have sooo much to be happy about.

Suzi

How's he doing with his drinking? Glad he's giving you some sunshine every day!

Sissy
29-09-18, 09:34 PM
He drinks less. I don't mind him having a beer or two, specially now when Kids are away. But I really do appreciate him being sober even when it is just us two. Feels nice since we get alot done. And he made me awesome dinner today, elk. I don't know how to Cook it, but he sure does. Plus we had a dinner at local restaurant yesterday. I feel spoiled

Sissy
01-10-18, 11:13 AM
Morning! When I posted that message it was already 7 or 8 am so not that early any more in here. But I wake up with Le dude for a moment, he leaves to work around 5 am every morning mon-thu. Then I sleep abit, and he usually calls me to make sure I am awake before sending Kids to school. He knows how much alarm clock upsets me, so he rather cheks up on me by phone. He is awesome like that <3

Suzi

That is really lovely of him to be kind and gentle with that...

Sissy
01-10-18, 11:00 PM
When things are bad, I feel he is too good for me and I don't deserve him. But he says he feels he doesn't always deserve me either, so we should just stop being silly about it and aim for nice future. It is so lovely how someone can make things so much better with just few words like that. I try my Best to make his life better than it was before me, because he sure makes mine alot better than it was before him. I had so many bad relationships in past. I was left so broken. When I divorced, it broke my heart. I dated someone for a while, who picked up those pieces and ground them to dust.. You can't glue dust. But with time dust can become clay, and with that clay slowly you can be whole again. That's my story in a nutshell. And he is the one making pottery in that story.

It’s so easy to be cynical in this day and age. I love that you’re not and that you don’t have any hangups about being honest about your feelings for Le Dude :)

Suzi

That post is awesome! I totally understand what you mean as it's kinda how I feel about my lovely husband Marc.. I love you're still so romantic after being through some horrible stuff. You are amazing! He's amazing too!
