Some time ago a therapist suggested to me that I put one of these together. I was talking about it on another thread and I was surprised that few people knew about them so I thought I would start a new thread about them.

You can use this idea to create just a distraction box or one that is a place to go to help settle an anxious mind.

The idea is this.
Find a box. It does not have to be anything special. An old shoe box, a box from the supermarket, even something from a car boot sale.

Mine is an old box of my mothers that I have covered in drawings, pretty paper, pictures cut from wall paper and stickers.

What you put in is up to you but here are some suggestions:-

For a soothing box add something for each of the 5 key senses
Eg. Taste - favourite sweets, special hot chocolate sachet
Sound:- Favourite CD
Feel:- A small soft toy, a carved model
Smell: A herbal tea bag (I think they always smell better than they taste!) A perfume stick
See: Funny book, A DVD, Pictures of a favourite memory

For a distraction box try something like the following:-
A special bubble bath
A small craft kit, eg a little cross stitch or a small airfix model
Paper and pens
A little adult colouring book and felt tips or coloured pencils
Plasticine
Favourite DVD
Favourite mug that you like to hold
Puzzle book

So what else can you think of that should go in YOUR box?

Music has to go in there. Maybe a little MP3 player with your favourite songs?

That's such a brilliant help. Thank you. I'm going to suggest one of these to my sister who might find it useful... Thanks Pen!
