Has anyone experienced easy bruising, itching, burst blood vessels with Venlafaxine? Thank you.

No, and I've been on it for years. I suggest you need to speak to a dr. How long have you been on it?

ERH15

6 weeks now. I think I will make an appointment
I did mention it to the psychiatrist and he said it should wear off but it is driving mad. Thanks for your reply x

I would see your gp as both you and Paula has said hun, it's not something that I experienced on it either, but we all react differently to medications

My GP sent me for urgent tests at the hospital I get the results on Friday. She was disgusted my private psychiatrist had sent me away when he knew I had these symptoms.

Paula

Hi everyone it's been a scary couple of days but I am pleased to say my bloods are fine and I have suffered a rare and severe side effect from venlafaxine. I need to taper myself off the venlafaxine and start duloxetine. Any experiences of this one?

Paula
20-11-15, 01:17 PM
Glad you know what it is, don't want to scare you but venlafaxine can be difficult to come off - so if you're feeling rough the next few days that's why and you can be reassured that it'll pass. I've never had duloxetine but I know a few others members have. Big hugs

ERH15

Thanks Paula I feel great today so if I keep this thought in my head hopefully it will get me through the hard days.

Wow, what a nasty reaction!
Coming off Venlafaxine can be a bit tough, depends on doses and how long you've been on it etc..... But make sure if you feel rubbish that you see a doctor.
Good luck with the Duloxetine!

I stayed in bed during my Venlafaxine withdrawal. I didn't attempt anything more than the absolute basics. Were you given any Valium?

ERH15
21-11-15, 04:21 PM
No maybe I will go back to the GP on Monday I felt ok this morning now I am really crying for no reason. I have only dropped to 225mg from 300mg. Maybe it's a combination of the huge bruises and achey legs as well. I wish I could show you my bruises. Thanks Rose

rose
21-11-15, 04:25 PM
Thats actually a big drop. No wonder you feel tearful! Look after yourself!

ERH15

It's horrible, but normal. I sobbed on my cleaner's shoulder the last time I was going through it. And I'm tearful today going through withdrawal of another drug. Just take it easy, lovely

I have been back for two weeks after a month off, I felt so ready to go back before the bruises appeared. But it's just another hurdle to jump over. :-)

That sounds pretty bad, please don't be ashamed or feel weak if you have to ask your doctor for help. You've just come off almost the highest dose of one of the most difficult ADs to come off, and you've come off it really fast too. I totally admire your bravery!

Paula
30-11-15, 12:34 PM
Please call the dr, anyone who's come off venlafaxine knows how difficult it is. There's no need to do this without support from your dr.

We cross-posted. Please call the doctors, explain the situation and see if they can maybe fit you in today.

I am going to ask my husband to leave work early I feel really unwell. Thanks ladies.

Suzi
30-11-15, 04:39 PM
Is he coming home?

ERH15
30-11-15, 04:42 PM
Hi Suzi yes he should be back from London soon. I have managed to have a sleep and feel much more comfortable, the trick is to lay still. I will of course go to the doctors first thing or call the nhs line if I feel worse again.

Suzi
30-11-15, 05:19 PM
Glad you're being sensible about it all lovely.

rose
30-11-15, 05:22 PM
If sleeping and lying still is getting you through it, then do what's necessary.
I slept a lot when I was coming off Venlafaxine because I knew that being awake was going to be tough.
I don't think its avoidance of the situation to sleep right now, just a tool to get through a very tough period.
You had a very bad reaction to this drug so I think it makes sense that coming off will also be tough.
Please make sure you seek medical attention if things don't feel right.

I really hope this passes soon!

Hi everyone just want to say a big thank you for your support yesterday. I haven't been to the GP as planned but I am feeling much better today less dizzy and have started he duloxetine as planned. Travel sickness tablets helped last night with the nausea and I will pop to see my doctor this week anyway as I have lost weight over the last couple of days. Has bad night sweats again last night but managed to ignore them and not get too worked up.

Suzi
01-12-15, 08:40 PM
How come you didn't see the dr?

ERH15
01-12-15, 08:42 PM
Because I was feeling much better than yesterday

Suzi

How are you feeling today?

ERH15
02-12-15, 06:12 PM
Much better thank you Paula. Slept perfectly with no night sweats and dizziness has gone. My depression symptoms are back but I know that's due to me starting the duloxetine. Such a relief to be feeling less dizzy and sick :-)

Paula

Hi ERH,

Hope you get a quick appointment with your GP and get your meds sorted out.

Venlafaxine and Duloxetine are in the same family of anti-depressants. Maybe that type of AD just doesn't agree with you.
Good luck at the doctors.... you poor thing!
